Intro to Contact Improv
November 9, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$25with Malcolm Shute
Contact improvisation is a folk dance in which movers cultivate connection. We move for the experience of being together, rather than to put on a show. While we never know where we’re going, we know we’ll get there together. Movers of all levels of ability may practice, learn more about themselves, and about others.
This workshop will introduce basic techniques for sharing weight safely, following and leading simultaneously, and practicing open play while communicating boundaries.
Malcolm Shute has led workshops in Contact Improvisation around the world, taught a semester-long class in the form at George Washington University, and uses contact improvisation to develop choreography as Artistic Director of Human Landscape Dance, http://hldance.org . He also practices tai chi, an antecedent of the form.
