In Wonderland- Introducing Ashley Forman

Performance Opportunity for Adults and Youth Dancers Ages 7+

You do not need to be enrolled in Local Motion Project to participate.

Our inaugural performance of Wonderland was created with the participants, and it will continue to evolve with each new group. We are thrilled to be working with Ashley Foreman, who will bring her expertise in devised theater to create text that expands on the ideas we started last year.

About Ashley:

Ashley Forman is a veteran of the education and community engagement department at Arena Stage for over 22 years, where she served as the Director of Education. She is responsible for the design of Voices of Now, Arena’s renowned, devised theater program for young, emerging and professional artists in the D.C. area and beyond. In addition to directing and overseeing over 150 VON productions, Ashley has devised autobiographical, movement-based theater in a variety of countries, including, India, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Peru. She co-designed a public speaking workshop series for diplomats and cultural affairs officers, in partnership with the US department of State, and worked with clinicians at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing to craft an applied theater curriculum for young people who are grieving. Since 2014, Ashley has served as a visiting artist and guest lecturer at Utah State University, where she works with theater education students and BFA acting students to create and perform ensemble-based theater for inquiry.  She is currently serving her second term on the board of directors of the American Alliance for Theater and Education. 
In 2024, Ashley founded The Precipice TheaterTeam, a theater company dedicated to creating autobiographical theater that incites productive conversation and connects communities around the world.

There will be no auditions. Some dance/performance experience is recommended.

Rehearsal Block: Saturdays, 3:30-5:30. Possible agreed upon additional hours.

First Rehearsal: Saturday, September 7th, 3:30-5:30 PM (All participants. Individual rehearsal schedules will be set after this)

Registration Closes: September 6th. Space is limited.

You must attend all rehearsals. Missing more than two may result in removal from the show.

Work-Study at LMP

Join our work-study team!

Commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week for at least 3 months, and you can exchange your hours for classes or rehearsal space.

1 hour of work = 1 class or 1 hour of rehearsal space!

Sound Healing in Hammocks

Sunday October 6 4:30pm and 6pm

Join Jeneen, on this special journey through the body and mind as she expertly guides you to a place of deep healing where you can connect to and experience the vital wholeness of your being. Release layers of stress with this carefully crafted sound ceremony including Crystal Singing Bowls, Tibetan Healing Bowls and Symphonic Gong as you are fully supported and cradled by our Aerial Hammocks.

No aerial experience necessary.

Intro to Aerial Workshop

This workshop is designed to give you a secure & detailed understanding of aerial hammock fundamentals. In this workshop you will learn basic techniques for getting in and out of beginner poses. Components include basic stretching, sitting, standing, conditioning and inversion poses on the hammock.

We require shirts that cover the underarms and ask that you refrain from wearing zippers or buttons and jewelry.

Must sign up in advance. Only 9 spots per workshop.
